CHÂTEAU DE CARAGUILHES
Since the heyday of the Cistercian abbey of Fontfroide in the 12th century, the vineyard has never ceased to be cultivated. Miraculously spared through the ages, the estate has never been fragmented (despite its 600 hectares) and has, for a long time, remained the stronghold of the lords of Montredon. They built the castle under Henry IV in the 17th century; it is not very recent. When the castle was bought in the late 1950s, the owner, Lionel Faivre, refused to use pesticides, herbicides, and other insecticides. Therefore, when the estate was sold to Pierre Gabison in 2005, he perpetuated the tradition, and the culture has become completely biological. Today, Château de Carguihles is one of the beautiful wine references in Languedoc-Roussillon. Carignan, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, and Marsanne provide an excellent white Corbières that is dry and floral, as well as the "red Solus" wine, acclaimed by the press and awarded regularly, hence its nickname "Margaux du Languedoc".
