RIVAGE HOTEL & SPA * * * *
Between the city, the lake and the mountains, this 4-star hotel offers an exceptional setting to fully enjoy the local dolce vita.
Moored on the shores of Lake Annecy, a superb boat with contemporary lines, a real place to live for a successful stay. Rivage Hôtel & Spa offers an exceptional setting for enjoying the local dolce vita. The natural beauty of a site between city, lake and mountains. A warm welcome and comfortable rooms with lake or mountain views. Meals on the terrace at Ricochet, relaxation in Annecy's largest spa, cocktails by the fire. Special mention for the yoga classes offered by a passionate teacher, which are open to outside guests.

Well he would surely appreciate this new Rivage for its dreamy style and "state of the art" design.
The location needs no exaggeration.
Annecy town, recognized as France's premier place to live, is judged first in frequent magazine competitions. It has no equal, and is known as the "pearl of the Alps", sitting between huge dramatic mountains, facing south over its glittering and glamourous lake. The Rivage sits right by the lake front, gleaming in its reflection and a short walk from the center of Annecy's old town. Perfect for the famous outdoor markets, boutique shops, and historic castle.
But is "New" a good thing?
Well surprise and delight await the traveller on entering this sensuously designed hotel with a rich style. Your room is decked in solid wood with raised natural grain surfaces that are warm to the touch. Likewise the wood floor transitions seamlessly to a soft carpeted bed area. Slide the huge glass doors out on to a heavy natural teak decking, and a balcony view of the lake or mountains. Back inside the large bed is comfortably padded with a blizzard of white cotton duvet, sheets, and pillows. A shower room of modern white marbling floor and walls with the biggest shower space we’ve seen for it’s an elegant jungle rain shower. Rivage has all its technical controls kept simple and elegant - both "simply elegant" and "elegantly simple". Its all user friendly and intuitive. But also the tiny details of the recessed wool carpet with the wood flooring for example or a TV remote with good user friendly design for hotel information or channels ; for once easy to use. Also that moment of stress one has when entering a hotel room, looking at a 30 character passcode, weirdly named SSID, with a one bar connection possible in only one corner of the room ; this stress fades as you connect easily to fast and free Wifi at the same time you spot the accessible USB charge points in the wall located conveniently.
Neat bright LED bed side reading lights. A spacious room layout, sliding wardrobe, with useful spaces for placing your trolley bag and things. A functionally asymmetric shape room, that hides the separate WC room on the other side of the large bathroom for discretion.
In the evening the recessed lighting of the room artfully reveals sinuous waves above the bed and pools of light around the room. A large Nespresso machine with coffee pods and tea, replaces that dreary old hotel mini kettle. Doors and drawers are all sliding, reassuringly heavy, and the shower room space even has a hidden pocket door. Everything is refined and luxurious. With bathrobes and slipper donned, you can proceed in a separate lift down to the spa level, picking up fluffy towels on your way. There is no staff guarded entry, to the hot bubbly pool, the steamy hamman, norwegian sauna with its ice dip. No staff to interfere here. A decent sized indoor pool with chill out areas and easy loungers. But in summer you could easily cross the road and swim from the lawns of France's most beautiful freshwater lake.
However I do fear the gleaming machinery of the indoor gym will remain unused since one is more likely to join the the numerous runners, and bicycles passing along the lakeside promenade.
The hotel is a realised dream,
part art,
part great design
and definitely an escape from reality.
