ASSOCIATION LE CAROUGE
Created in 1989, the association Le Carouge (named after the oriole, a bird endemic to the island) aims to study and research for the promotion and preservation of the fauna and flora of Martinique. Chaired by David Belfan, it regularly intervenes in schools to raise awareness among the youngest to the preservation of the environment. It has notably created various educational tools, such as a game of the seven families, a puzzle and a DVD on the sedentary and breeding birds of Martinique. The association regularly conducts studies and draws up inventories for the administrations to list the bird species present on the island. It also organizes monthly bird watching outings and events on endemic (oriole or blackbird, blue-headed hummingbird...) and migratory birds. The latter pass through the island between July and December to reach the plateaus of Guyana and Venezuela.
