DURESTAL SCRUB
The woods of Cendrieux house a reconstruction of Maquis de Durestal, which was one of the most important maquis of the Dordogne from July 1943 to August 1944: the daily life of this resistance centre of the Second World War is shown through a path of twelve stations, a walking trail locating the remains of the camp and an exhibition area with information panels. Thanks to ANACR, the local communities and "La Mémoire de nos pères", the project of reviving local memory has taken the form of this site set up to bear witness for young generations. You can feel here the tension these men must have experienced, you can learn how they slept, fed themselves and hid... to better act against occupying forces. On the weekend of July 6 and 7, the site will be particularly livened up on the occasion of the commemorations of the 75th anniversary of the creation of the ANCEL maquis and the creation of the Brigade Alsace-Lorraine, with the inauguration of the new stele in memory of Jean Reghem (young Resistance fighter who sacrificed himself so that his group would escape a Nazi column), but also on September 20 and 21, as part of Heritage Days
