Located southwest of the city centre, the 7th district of Marseille is located on the tip of the Old Port Cove. As it is centrally located, is a residential area and has a very rich heritage, it is one of the most popular boroughs of the Phocaean city. Half of its neighbourhoods, namely those of Roucas-Blanc, Bompard and Endoume, are dominated by the famous Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, which is the emblematic building of Marseille that makes this borough particularly endearing. The 7th district also shelters Saint-Victor Square and in the eponymous district that runs alongside the Old Port, there is the Abbey of Saint-Victor which is one of the oldest Christian buildings in France. This area is also one of the most charming in the 7th district thanks to its sloping narrow streets, its well-built buildings built in the 19th century, its grocery stores and friendly restaurants. Finally, the other asset of the 7th district is its open sea view of the Frioul islands and the sublime sunsets on these islands that can be quietly admired from a coffee-shop terrace.

What to visit Marseille?

When to go to Marseille?

The best time to go to Marseille is in the spring or fall, during the low season. Hotel and restaurant rates are much lower than in summer during this period and the beaches are almost deserted. As for the climate, it is ideal, warm but not too hot, and you can often swim from spring and sometimes until the end of November in autumn. Winter is the very low tourist season but the climate remains mild with the possibility of doing many hikes under the sun. The high tourist season is of course the summer, in July and August, the roads are crowded and the prices easily go from simple to triple. It is then necessary to book early if you want to have a place and not to lose all your savings. Marseille is indeed a city that is becoming more and more touristic and it is not only popular with the French but also with a great number of foreign tourists. If you go to Marseille in the summer, it is a good time for outdoor festivals and you can easily find a complete list of these festivals at the tourist office.
