Timetable

Opening times are fairly similar to those in France (between 9am and 7pm). Please note that many historic sites have summer and winter opening hours. Be sure to check their websites. Here, there are no daytime siesta breaks like in Spain. If you're on a guided tour, take the morning session (especially in summer, because of the heat). The museum is generally closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and on December 25, January¹ and Easter Day.

To be booked

There's no need to book in advance for the town's museums. If you're going to Sintra and want to visit the palaces, we advise you to book your tickets on the Internet before your stay. This will save you time and trouble. What's more, you can benefit from a discount if you buy two tickets at the same time.

Budget & Tips

Entrance can be free or with a discount (up to 50%) for holders of the Lisboa Card, a pass sold at the Turismo de Lisboa branches. It is valid for a list of attractions for 24, 48 or 72 hours. Some museums are free on the first Sunday of the month or on Sunday morning. This is usually specified on their website. It is possible to visit museums for free on International Museum Day (in May).

Main events

THE big event in Lisbon takes place in June. St. Anthony's Day is celebrated on the evening of June 12, but there are events all month long. The Portuguese look forward to it as early as May.

At the Ask me Lisboa tourist office (www.visitlisboa.com), located in the Place du Commerce or Place de Restauradores, you'll find documentation on various types of guided tours and activities. In Lisbon, there are panoramic buses offering tours of the city (yellow bus - https://yellowbustours.com), as well as tours on more original themes such as food tours, bike rides along the Tagus, street art tours..
