Brazil has the reputation of being a festive country. We have to admit that this reputation is far from being usurped. In Lapa, in Rio, in Savassi in Belo Horizonte, the party is in full swing at the heart of the night. The notion of nightclubs or clubs is a rather broad and variable concept and it is sometimes difficult to differentiate between music bars and nightclubs. In all these places, bands perform with spectators who dance and sing. Clubs and music bars often open at 8pm and usually close on Mondays. On weekends, they stay open until very late at night. You can find all kinds of music (sertaneja, MPB, electro) and all kinds of atmospheres (alternative, rock, LGBT...). Billiard halls, cinemas and other cultural and entertainment venues exist but are less frequented than in France, except in the big cities for the last two, such as the Circo Voador in Rio for example.

Budget & Tips

Entrance fees rarely exceed R$60 or R$100 (except for the very select clubs). Credit cards are accepted in most establishments.

To be booked

As clubs have limited capacity, it is strongly recommended to book for special events with well-known singers, bands or DJs.

Night transport

The subways of the different cities generally start operating at 4:30 or 5:00 am and stop around midnight or 0:30 am. Remember, nights are not very safe in Brazil and public transportation is not recommended. The best friend of the night owl is the cab. We will take the cab waiting near the establishment or the one that we will have taken care to call. The night rates are a little higher but that's the price to pay for a safe return

Age restrictions

Brazilian legislation prohibits minors from frequenting establishments that sell alcohol. The legal age of majority is set at 18 years old, as in France

Smokers

Smoking is forbidden in closed establishments intended to receive the public. As in France, smoking will have to be done outside
