How to get there - Kingston

Kingston

Steps: Gananoque

Departure early in the morning in the direction of Gananoque. Stroll on its lakefront while admiring the river and the Thousand Islands. Lunch on a terrace in one of Gananoque's restaurants and head to Kingston in the early afternoon. When you arrive in Kingston, take the Kingston Trolley Tours bus for a complete tour of this charming, historic city. Finish your day with dinner in the vaulted vaults of historic Fort Henry. For those who haven't cruised to Gananoque, treat yourself to a sunset dinner cruise aboard the Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises cruise ship. Memorable!

Toronto

If you leave early enough in the morning, we strongly suggest you take Highway 33 from Kingston to the Glenora ferry. Make a quick stop in the charming town of Picton and head for the sand dunes of Sandbanks Provincial Park. From there, join Highway 401 to Toronto. Once in town, leave your car in the hotel parking lot and take the subway or walk. Explore the downtown area with its many stores, especially on Queen Street West, and visit the Art Gallery of Ontario. End your day with dinner at one of the city's many rooftop restaurants.

Toronto

Head to Lake Ontario and take a tour of the CN Tower, one of the tallest towers in the world. Take the ferry to the Toronto Islands and end your morning with a picnic lunch. Back in the city, take the afternoon to visit Chinatown and the bohemian Kensington Market next door. In the evening, take advantage of your presence in one of North America's most cultural cities to attend a concert, play or Broadway-style show.

Niagara Peninsula

Steps: Niagara Falls

Take the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) towards Niagara-on-the-Lake, an area famous for its ice wine and fresh fruit picking. Enjoy tastings and lunch at one of the nearby restaurants. Then follow the Niagara Parkway, a beautiful road along the Niagara River, to Niagara Falls. Experience the beauty of Niagara Falls at sunset and dine at the Skylon Tower's panoramic restaurant, where you can enjoy views of the city and the Falls. Finish your day with a trip to the casino.

Niagara Region and Lake Erie Shorelines

Steps: Fort Erie

Visit Journey Behind the Falls to see the other side of the falls or cruise to the foot of the falls aboard Hornblower's catamaran. Then follow the Niagara Parkway to Fort Erie to visit Old Fort Erie, the site of Canada's War of 1812 re-enactment. If you have enough time and formalities (customs required), take a trip to Buffalo, an American city just across the street. Then take Route 3 and make a few stops in pretty coastal towns like Port Dover. Afterwards, head to Port Stanley where you will spend the night.

Point Pelee National Park

Steps: Port Stanley

Located approximately 160 km west of Port Stanley, Point Pelee National Park is at the same latitude as Rome. In the fall and spring, hundreds of thousands of birds come to the park for a break before continuing on their journey. To enjoy this wonderful migration spectacle, there's nothing better than a stop at this oasis that opens onto Lake Erie. Spend the night in the park, Leamington or Kingsville.

Goderich

Steps: Goderich

Departure to Goderich by the 401 to London, then route 4 north. This pretty town built on a cliff overlooking Lake Huron offers incredible views of the Great Lake. Take a stroll around Courthouse Park, the area with its cafes, restaurants and shops, and relax with your favourite drink on one of the terraces in this charming town or soak up the sun on the beach. Spend the night in one of the city's hostels.

Lake Huron Shoreline

Steps: Southampton

A day to enjoy Lake Huron and its charming coastal villages. Take your time and follow the shoreline via Route 21. Make a stop in Kincardine. There are a few good little restaurants along Queen and Harbour Streets, but if only for the view from its terrace, we suggest The Bruce. Depending on your interests, visit the Kincardine Lighthouse-Museum or opt for water activities. For dinner and overnight accommodation, the coastal town of Southampton is an excellent destination. If you like the crowded resorts more, continue on to Sauble Beach.

Bruce Peninsula

Steps: Tobermory

Take Route 6, go to Tobermory. Bordered to the east by Georgian Bay and to the west by Lake Huron, the tiny community of Tobermory attracts many fishermen and divers each year. The crystal clear waters remind us of the beauty of an island like Corsica. A visit to this region cannot be complete without a visit to the magnificent Bruce Peninsula National Park. To sleep, there are a few hotels in Tobermory or the campground at Cyprus Lake, 15 km from Tobermory.

Manitoulin Island

Steps: Île Manitoulin

Take the ferry to Manitoulin Island, a sacred place for Aboriginal people. Those seeking a spiritual and unusual experience will spend the night there and we highly recommend it. Manitoulin Island is considered the largest freshwater island in the world.

Lake Simcoe Region

Steps: Nobel

Departure to Parry Sound via Sudbury. Take advantage of your day to visit the magnificent provincial parks along Georgian Bay (French River, Killbear, The Massasauga...). Continue on to Lake Simcoe and the city of Barrie. You will find many accommodations and restaurants on site.

Muskoka

Parc provincial Algonquin.

Steps: Huntsville

Departure to Huntsville via Route 11 (we recommend you visit Gravenhurst and Bracebridge, two pretty little towns on the way). A stop in this area is a must in this region known as "Muskoka". The terrain is breathtaking. While Huntsville offers adequate accommodation, it is in the middle of the countryside that you will find high quality hostels. While in Huntsville, visit the Muskoka Heritage Place, a reconstructed historic village.

Algonquin Provincial Park

Early morning departure to Algonquin Provincial Park. Spend the day discovering the riches of this park and take advantage of the good weather for a picnic lunch. For those who enjoy the outdoors, you can also stay at one of the on-site facilities or at one of the inns on the park's outskirts.
