MUSEU NACIONAL DE ARQUEOLOGIA
Beautiful national museum of archaeology in Lisbon, with a beautiful and huge granite sculpture from the Lusitanian-Roman period.
Nestled between the Navy Museum and the Jerónimos, this beautiful national archaeological museum is particularly interesting for its remains of prehistoric Portugal and its collection of Egyptian objects. It offers a panorama of the evolution of man from the lower Paleolithic to the Roman period. Everything begins with an alignment of skulls (human genesis), from the anthropopithecus to Homo sapiens, which clearly shows the evolution of the brain. A few sample pieces then punctuate this well-organized journey where, through the manufacture of tools and objects, you perceive the evolution of the human species. A dolmen carved from the final Neolithic period carries a kind of twisted flame running from bottom to top, symbolizing life force and renewal. Two skeletons, perfectly preserved and found in the Escoural caves, date from the megalithic period and illustrate the practice of "private burials". With the bodies are buried some objects of daily life. A granite stone painted with anthropomorphic figures (the appearance of painting as such in this region dates back to the fourth millennium BC) shows characters, almost dancing brown silhouettes... A very beautiful sculpture, immense, of granite, from the Lusitano-Roman period, representing a warrior. And finally, from the Roman period itself, a tiled fresco, some statues and objects of daily life, including beautiful amphoras.

A l'intérieur, on retrouve quelques belles pièces mais le musée n'est vraiment pas très grand. La seule salle digne d'intérêt est celle des pièces de monnaie et bijoux, dans laquelle on ne peut malheureusement pas prendre de photos.
