This second course focuses on the part of the Old South located west of Atlanta and the main battles of the Civil War. You should not absolutely fail to see a few beautiful Antebellum-style houses, especially in Mississippi, in Corinth, Columbus, Rode and Natchez. Duration:14 days - Total distance: 2 200 km.

Day 2: Atlanta
Atlanta was destroyed during the Civil War. However, a part of the Gone with the Wind Trail can be discovered there, including the house of Margaret Mitchell.
Day 3: Chattanooga
Steps: Atlanta, Marietta, Kennesaw, Chattanooga
Priority tour: Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park. FromAtlanta, stop in Marietta, 20 miles fromAtlanta, to visit the Scarlett On the Square - a beautiful museum north of the Gone With the Wind Trail, entirely dedicated to the movie Gone With the Wind, and then drive through Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. It takes 1 hour and 45 minutes to get to Chattanooga from Atlanta via Marietta.
Day 4: Franklin
Steps: Chattanooga
One of the most important battles in Tennessee during the Civil War did not leave any battlefields to visit. However The Battle of Franklin Trust and an individual suggest the visit of 3 homes marked by the fighting. It takes 2 hours from Chattanooga.
Day 5: Shiloh - Corinth
Steps: Corinth, Shiloh National Military Park
The two sites related to the Civil War are part of the Shiloh National Military Park. They are 23 miles away. Priority visits: Shiloh National Battlefield (Shiloh), Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center (Corinth), Crossroad Museum (Corinth), Antebellum houses in the historic district of Corinth. Night in Corinth. It takes 2 hours to reach Shiloh from Franklin, and another 30 minutes to reach Corinth.

Day 6: Columbus
Priority Visit: Antebellum houses in the historic neighbourhood. It takes 2 hours from Corinth.
Day 7: Jackson
Steps: Columbus, Colombus, Jackson, Natchez
The capital of Mississippi was burned several times during the Civil War. However, several major buildings were spared. Priority visits: Old Capitol Museum, Mississippi Governor's Mansion, Jackson City Hall. Itinerary suggestion: from Columbus, join Kosciusko, then follow the Natchez Trace Parkway to Jackson. It takes 2 hours 50 from Columbus via the Natchez Trace Parkway.

Day 8: Vicksburg
This city located on the banks of the Mississippi River was the last access to the river for the Union. Besieged for 47 days, Tomba fell on July 4, 1863. Main visits: Rode National Military Park, Old Depot Museum, an Antebellum house in the historic neighbourhoods, including Anchucha Mansion. It takes 45 minutes from Jackson.
Day 9: Natchez
Spared by the Civil War battle , Natchez is preserved from time. Main visits: Antebellum houses, Natchez Cemetery. It takes 1 hour and 40 since Rode, via the Natchez Trace Parkway from Port Gibson.

Day 10: Biloxi
Mostly occupied by the big casinos of the Gulf Coast, Biloxi is nevertheless home to a very beautiful antebellum mansion. It is the Beauvoir, Jefferson Davis Home & Presidential Library, the property occupied by former Confederate President Jefferson Davis from 1879 to 1889. Eventually, visit Fort Massachusetts. Allow 3 1/2 hours from Natchez. The proximity of New Orleans along the way (less than 20 miles from the route) will prompt some to take a detour. Allow 2 extra days for the visit of the city.

Day 11: Montgomery via Mobile
Steps: Montgomery, Mobile, Biloxi, Nashville
Montgomery, capital of Alabama, was also, but just for a few months, the capital of the Confederate States. Priority visits: Alabama State Capitol, First White House of The Confederacy, Biloxi. We strongly recommend a stop in Mobile to visit the city.
Day 13: Jonesboro - Atlanta
Steps: Atlanta, Marietta, Jonesboro, Montgomery
Last day of visit and southern part of Gone with the Wind Trail by going to Jonesboro, 20 miles south of Atlanta. Here you will find the Road to Tara Museum and Stately Oaks, an Antebellum-style house to visit. It takes you 2 hours and a half from Montgomery.
