How to get there - Vilnius

The center of Vilnius

Start your visit in Cathedral Square, which you'll recognize by its imposing French classical style. Climb through the park to the Gediminas Tower overlooking the square. At the top of the tower is a belvedere offering a beautiful panorama of the city. Then take Gedimino prospektas, the Lithuanian Champs-Élysées. At the opposite end of the street is the Museum of the Victims of Genocide, more commonly known as the "KGB Museum", which evokes the hell of political prisoners during the Soviet occupation. After strolling through Gedimino, leave Cathedral Square and head up Rue Pilies, a street full of restaurants and cafés, where you can take a break on one of the terraces. Continue up Rue Didzioji to Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville. From the square, you'll seeSt. Casimir's Church, recognizable by its crown-shaped steeple and its color: pink. Walk past the Hotel Astorija up to the Porte de l'Aurore.

Start the day with a visit to thechurch of Sainte-Anne, with its distinctive red brick façade. Behind it is the Bernardins group of churches. Cross the river and venture into the "Republic of Uzupis", a district of bohemian artists nicknamed the "Little Montmartre". Climb to Basteja and take in the view. In the north of the city, don't miss theChurch of Saints Peter and Paul. Its interior is one of the finest examples of Lithuanian Baroque. In the late afternoon, take a trip to the Television Tower. From here, you can admire Vilnius and its surroundings, and dine or have a drink in the restaurant.

Ancient medieval city of Trakai and its large lakes

Trakai is a small town 28 km from Vilnius, famous for its lake and castle, which was once the capital of the Duchy of Lithuania. On the program, visit the castle and the Karaite Ethnographic Museum to discover this Lithuanian minority. If the weather is nice and hot, you can swim in the lake or rent a boat for a walk along the water.

Green hills of Kernavé

Just 40 km from Vilnius, this small village is set in a sublime landscape: the Neris valley and its many hills. After a tour of the village and the former kolkhoz, it's time to take to the paths for a short walk, or even a picnic, in an exceptional natural site, listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Kaunas, the former capital

The country's second largest city, and the former capital during the inter-war period, is worth a visit. Its old town, its castle and its pedestrian street are very pleasant. The museums deserve to be visited, especially the one of the painter and composer Mr. K Čiurlionis, but especially the Devil's Museum, very picturesque.

Niemen Delta

Leave Kaunas for the Lithuanian coast and discover the charms of the small villages of the Curonian Lagoon and its culinary specialty: smoked fish.

Day 7

Wildlife watching

You'll be able to admire the large numbers of birds that settle in this region to breed (ornithological observatory), while staying with local people in sublime homes. They'll be happy to suggest a range of activities to help you discover the region.

Neringa peninsula

Cross the lagoon to Nida, a quiet, beautiful village. Then on to Juodkrantė and its Witches' Hill. Discover the dunes and the many viewpoints.

Walk in Nature

Enjoy the lagoon, the beach and the pine forest where small wooden houses hide. And don't forget to swim in the Baltic Sea in summer or to walk on the frozen lagoon in winter.

Ferry crossing

From the Neringa peninsula to the port town of Klaipėda, take the ferry at Smiltynė and then return to the mainland. You can admire the lagoon and sand dunes that line the peninsula along the way.

Klaipėda does not require more than a day for a visit to the old town. They drink Švyturys beer there! You can also visit the brewery, but you must book in advance.

Laziness and water activities in Palanga

Palanga is one of the most popular seaside resorts in Lithuania. Enjoy the 10 km of sandy beach and let yourself be tempted by a jet-ski tour.

Day 16

Heading south

Back to the south of the country for some relaxation in the mushroom region, thermal cures and a visit to Grutos Parkos, where you can stroll along alleys littered with statues from the Soviet era.

Relaxation and well-being in Druskininkai

Take a day to discover Druskininkai, the city of the Lithuanian composer Čiurlionis and the sculptor Lipchitz. The city is known as a spa, so take the opportunity to relax in one of its many health facilities.
