The 5th arrondissement has a rich heritage listed as a UNESCO World Heritage. Its visit means discovering the history of Lyon and the ancient Lugdunum. It is indeed in the 5th arrondissement which Old Lyon is concentrated, a must in the city bordering the Saône and which extends from St George to St Paul via the Saint Jean district. Old Lyon has many preserved and remarkable historical buildings, including: the Manécanterie, an 11th century building that now houses the Museum of Religious Art and the treasure of St Jean Cathedral; the recently renovated 19th century Courthouse; St Jean Cathedral and its former episcopal group. But the 5th one is also home to a large number of green spaces with many parks and gardens offering pretty views of Lyon and the surrounding area. Finally, the 5th arrondissement also has a specific feature: it has two town halls, an annex town hall on the Point du Jour hill, and a main town hall at Rue Edmond Locard.

What to visit Lyon?

When to go to Lyon?

Lyon, the third largest city in France, is alive all year round and has an incomparable architectural, cultural or religious wealth. No tourist season other than the one caused by school holidays. So you can come whenever you want! However, it is sometimes very hot in summer and very cold in winter. You should also know that magic works particularly during the Festival of Lights, an emblematic Lyon festival that makes the city shine from all sides, from small candles lit on the windowsills of private individuals to the sumptuous illuminations of the city. Pilgrimages are also an opportunity to climb the hill of Fourvière during religious festivities. The Nuits de Fourvière, in June and July, with multidisciplinary performances in ancient theatre, are also another incentive.
