Capital of the former Languedoc-Roussillon region, second city of the new Occitanie, Montpellier is a dynamic city. Very dynamic. In fact, it is the French city with the highest demographic growth. Student (there are many universities and schools), festive, modern and historical, it offers a privileged living environment to many Parisians (in particular) in search of a sunny (300 days of sunshine per year!) and urban living environment. For three decades, the capital of Languedoc has gone from being a "sleeping beauty" to a city of technology and culture where museums(Musée Fabre), art galleries, concert halls and festivals abound. The city also offers a beautiful mix of old (mansions dating from the Middle Ages, cobblestone streets), and contemporary(Port Marianne, Antigone, Pierre Vives). A few steps away from the beaches of Carnon and Palavas, close to nature and the garrigue, Montpellier embodies the dolce vita of the south thanks to its many terraces, its Place de la Comédie, its shady streets and its lively nightlife. Montpellier is definitely a rising star in French tourism!
When to go to Montpellier? Winter is not very interesting (although the weather is very mild, even during this period). It is definitely in April-May and September-October that the city is most pleasant. The weather is nice and warm (but reasonably so): the terraces are out again and the streets are filled with small improvised shows. The prices, at this period, are still affordable. In summer, the city of Montpellier almost never stops living despite the city heat which is sometimes difficult to bear. However, you can take advantage of this time to go to the seaside resorts of the coast to take a dip in the sea.
Montpellier lives at the rhythm of the Mediterranean climate, a pleasant climate that is conducive to relaxation. The sun is present almost all year round. So let's say that winter is mild here, and that spring, ia capricious, gives way to a long and hot summer, only troubled by a few storms in August. Average temperatures range from 6°C in January to 22°C in July. Be careful, in summer, the temperature can often exceed 35°C.
