The 6th arrondissement in the centre of Paris is above all known for its mythical Saint-Germain-des-Près district. The latter has been marked by all the artists and writers frequentingit including Balzac, George Sand and Jean-Paul Sartre. Very marked by this artistic past, the 6th arrondissement has today many art galleries and historic cafés or brasseries, including the Café de Flore or Les Deux Magots. This district is also very touristy because of several remarkable sites: the Saint-André-des-Arts and de Buci streets, picturesque and paved with many typically Parisian restaurants and cafés; the Luxembourg Garden which extends itself magnificently over the 6th district and over the 5th; the beautiful Saint-Sulpice church; the very commercial street of Rennes. But the 6th district accommodates also many 4-star hotels and many French and world cuisine restaurants. There is no doubt that the 6th arrondissement of Paris has a lot to offer to visitors.

What to visit Paris?

When to go to Paris?

It goes without saying that Paris is alive all year round, but if you're aiming for a particular activity or event, you'll need to choose your time of year. Here are some tips on when to visit Paris.

High tourist season: from May to September, tourists flock in great numbers. This is when the weather is the best and many festivals and events take place, such as Roland Garros or the Fête de la Musique. Note that in August, Parisians desert the city to go on vacation, which gives a strange atmosphere. Many shops are closed and only the tourist centers are animated. The Christmas period is also very popular, especially for the illuminations and the animated windows of the department stores.

Mid-season: in October-November and from March to April, tourism slows down slightly, but not the number of visitors. Indeed, Paris is a dense city and there are almost always people in the transport and in the attractions.

Low tourist season: there is not really one, except in January and February, when hotel rates drop slightly. Paris attracts tourists all the time!

Weather all year round

The climate of Paris is of a degraded oceanic type since it is influenced by the continent. Temperatures are relatively mild with frequent rainfall in all seasons. The hottest temperatures are recorded in July and August, and the coldest in January. The high urbanization of the city results in a slight temperature increase (about 2°C) compared to the rest of the northern half of the country.
