Arrival in Barbados

Arrive at your accommodation and take your first steps in Barbados. Head for the nearest beach: Carlisle Bay if you're near Bridgetown, Rockley (south coast) or Mullins Beach (northwest) to get into the mood and taste your first rum punch.

Early in the morning, explore downtown Bridgetown at your leisure: Careenage, National Heroes Square, St. Michael's Cathedral, the synagogue district, or on a guided tour, following the gastronomic thread with Lickrish Tour or with Claudette from Discover Heritage for the historical side. After a quick lunch (at Chefette's, for example), visit the synagogue and its museum, stroll along Broad Street, Swan Street and the Cheap Side Market. End the afternoon at Brownes or Pebbles Beach on Carlisle Bay and dine at a Bay Street establishment (Harbour Lights, Lobster Alive, Sage Bistro).

Around The Garrison
Steps: Hastings
Rendezvous in the area around The Garrison. Visit the ruins of Fort Charles on the Hilton Hotel property, followed by the George Washington House. Enjoy lunch in the café before continuing to Garrison Savannah Racecourse, admiring the guardhouse and barracks before heading to the Barbados Museum. Before sunset, stroll along the Richard Haynes Boardwalk between Hastings and Rockley. Dine at one of the beachside restaurants (Tapas, Salt or Champers).

Let's explore the parish of Saint Philip on the southeast coast. Morning visit to Sunbury Great House, followed by the Foursquare Distillery. Lunch at Crane Resort's beach bar "The Grove" (or picnic), then on to Bottom Bay and Shark Hole before enjoying the view from Ragged Point lighthouse. Dinner at Worthing Square Food Court.

Gun Hill, hiking and pottery
Steps: Gun Hill
Start in the morning to enjoy the fresh air as soon as the Gun Hill Signal Station complex opens, and don't forget to say hello to its lion. Depending on the time of day, lunch at The Fusiliers café. In the afternoon, hike through the trails of Coco Hill Forest, a regenerative agroforestry farm. End your day with a visit to Earthworks Pottery, the kings of ceramics. If you've got an early start, you can enjoy a late lunch at the workshop café.

Steps: Welchman Hall
Back to the island's interior. Early in the morning, head for Harrison's Cave Eco-Adventure Park to be among the first to visit the caves. A stone's throw away, enjoy the freshness of Welchman Hall Gully and its lush vegetation before heading to Flower Forest Gardens. Enjoy a late lunch at its café. After your visit to the garden, round off your discoveries with a stroll through the delightful Hunte's Garden, where classical music accompanies you among the plants.

Wild East Coast

Spend the morning visitingSt. John's parish church and cemetery and the Codrington College complex. Head up to Bathsheba, its Soup Bowl surfers, beach and strange rock formations. Enjoy a bite to eat at The Round House before heading to theAndromeda Botanical Garden. End the day at the Sea View Bar or dine at the Atlantis Inn or ECO Lifestyle Lodge in Prospect, near Bathsheba and overnight.

The north of the east coast
Steps: Boscobelle
Early in the morning, head for the north of the island and spend the early morning hiking at Walkers Reserve. Spend the late morning at St. Nicholas Abbey and its steam train. Discover the house and distillery before boarding the train and admiring the view from Cherry Tree Hill. Return south and visit the Morgan Lewis Sugar Mill. Late afternoon and overnight in Speightstown.

A day in Speightstown
Steps: Speightstown
In the morning, stroll through historic Speightstown and visit the Arlington House Museum. Traditional Bajan lunch at Fisherman's House. Afternoon relaxation at Heywoods Beach and refreshments at The Caboose. Dinner in downtown Speightstown (Orange Street Grocer, Local & Co) or nearby (The Sea Shed, The Fish Pot) and overnight in the area.

The Platinum Coast
The Platinum Coast beckons! Take time out for a shopping spree in town at Limegrove Centre and/or Chattel Village, not forgetting to salute the obelisk symbolizing the arrival of the very first British settlers in Barbados. Have lunch at one of the establishments in Limegrove Centre or at the Carizma Café in Chattel Village. In the afternoon, stop off at Folkestone Marine Park for some snorkeling. If budget allows, live the life of a star by dining at The Cliff or The Tides or, more affordably, at QP Bistro.
Caves and rum
Steps: Oistins
Last trip to the north of the island, with a morning visit to Animal Flower Cave (lunch at the restaurant). In the afternoon, visit the Mount Gay distillery before heading for the south coast. In the evening, off to Oistins for the famous Fish Fry.
